The media reported searches in the Moscow Garage Museum of Roman Abramovich – April 26, 2024

--

Searches are taking place in the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art on Krymsky Val and in the Narkomfin building on Novinsky Boulevard in Moscow, MSK1.RU reported on April 26 with reference to the telegram channel “Caution, Moscow”. It is clarified that the directors and curators of the institution are not released until the end of the investigative measures; they are allegedly prohibited from using telephones.

As the publication writes, the search may presumably be related to literature stored in the archive, which falls under the law banning LGBT* propaganda (the movement is recognized as extremist and is prohibited in the Russian Federation).

“The museum is operating as normal,” Garage told Fontanka.

The editors contacted the museum’s press service for comment.

The operational unit of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow also reported to MSK1.RU that there was no information about investigative actions being carried out at this address. In addition, journalists do not observe law enforcement officers near the main building or inside the museum.

According to RBC, the “events” at the Garage museum are carried out by the FSB.

The founders of Garage, Daria Zhukova and Roman Abramovich, opened the modern museum in 2008. Since February 2022, the organization has not held exhibitions, but still organizes lectures and publishes books.
