More than 300 unique book monuments are stored in the Pskov Regional Universal Scientific Library named after V. Ya. Kurbatov. This was told by the deputy director general of the institution, Ekaterina Anufrieva, on the air of the Ministry of Culture program on the Silver Rain radio station (88.3 FM).

“You can talk for a very long time about our department of rare and valuable publications, which stores, among other things, books with the status of a book monument. These are unique editions for our region, and for Russia in general. We have over 300 of them,” said Ekaterina Anufrieva.

Among the unique book monuments that the library keeps are the lifetime editions of Fyodor Dostoevsky and Leo Tolstoy, local history publications published on the territory of the Pskov province before the revolution, several collections of books that belonged to the Romanov dynasty, including a book dedicated to the honeymoon trip of Nicholas II to Europe, a collection of books published in besieged Leningrad, newspapers and leaflets from the period of the Great Patriotic War.

Ekaterina Anufrieva also noted that a book can be rare according to several criteria: by circulation, by uniqueness from a printing point of view, by time. “We have the oldest book in the library – 1771. A book monument, a rare edition, ”concluded the guest of the broadcast.
