Sophie Oksanen’s book about sexual violence in the Russian army was translated into Estonian | Literature

A presentation of the book “Into the Same River. Putin’s War against Women” by Finnish writer Sophie Oksanen, translated into Estonian, took place in Tallinn.

The author’s new book is dedicated to sexual violence by the Russian military on the territory of Ukraine and how Russia uses it as a deliberate weapon of war, reports Actual Camera.

The book also examines war of aggression in light of Russian imperialism and its past, and examines why the Kremlin is interested in silencing women both at home and abroad.

The rights to the book have already been sold to dozens of countries, and a dozen translations have already appeared. The author hopes that the book will be translated into Russian, but does not believe that this will happen in Russia.

“It is unlikely that this book will be published in Russia, but I hope that independent publishing houses will begin to appear outside of Russia for that Russian literature that does not fit into the current policy of the Russian Federation. That is, literature in Russian may have a chance to be published outside Russia in the future, my book could be published by such a publishing house,” said Sophie Oksanen.
