In St. Petersburg, the court upheld the decision to destroy eight scientific books that were kept in the library of the European University. Back in May 2023, the books were confiscated.

The reason was that the literature was published with the support of organizations recognized as undesirable in Russia. Therefore, in December last year the university was fined 35 thousand rubles. University representatives decided to challenge the decision.

“The court rejected the university’s arguments that the contents of these books were not examined or assessed. Also, the court did not support the university’s argument that the storage of books is not prohibited by current legislation, and the fact of distribution, as well as storage for distribution purposes, of books was not established during the inspection,” the press service of the university said.

Earlier, the Petersburg Diary wrote that on May 17, 2023, prosecutors discovered, during an inspection in the university library collection, books published with the support and participation of undesirable organizations. Read more here.
