Why hasn’t One Hundred Years of Solitude been filmed yet?
According to the will of the book’s creator, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, One Hundred Years of Solitude should not have been filmed. The writer was worried that technical limitations would kill the magical atmosphere of his main novel. However, after Marquez’s death, his sons, Rodrigo Garcia and Gonzalo Garcia Barcha, disposed of their father’s legacy in their own way. They decided to sell the film rights to a streaming service, reasoning that modern graphics and special effects would make it possible to turn the text into an exciting series.
Márquez also protested that a possible adaptation of One Hundred Years of Solitude should be in any language other than Spanish, and his will was followed. The series was filmed in Colombia, Marquez’s homeland, and the language of the work is Spanish.

What is the series “One Hundred Years of Solitude” about?
