British stores have radically reduced the price of disc copies Forspoken before the start of the Christmas season — discounts on the game reach 85-90%writes the publication Video Games Chronicle.
Retail chain Smyths is selling the console exclusive PlayStation 5 for just £7.99, while at the start of sales in early 2023 they asked for £65-70. The disappointing game is available for £9.99 from GAME, HMV and Amazon.
Such a radical price reduction in less than a year since release shows that Square Enix’s brainchild was unable to interest a wide audience even after the release of a series of patches and story expansion.
Many stores still have not been able to sell out the initial batch of Forspoken discs — in the summer, retailers tried to give it as a bonus to buyers of PlayStation 5 bundles with several games.
Square Enix does not disclose the exact sales of the PS5 console exclusive, but has already disbanded the studio that created it Luminous Productions. According to insiders, the development of Forspoken could cost $100 million.
