Tesla Model 3 sedan underwent restyling back in the fall of last year, but then many were surprised that the improvements affected primarily the appearance and interior, and not the technical stuffing. Now, with the release of the “hottest” Performance modification, improved characteristics have come to the fore.
The external features of the Performance modification are slightly more aggressive bumpers with a developed splitter and diffuser, as well as a different spoiler. And these are not just decorations: in total, such a body kit reduces air resistance by 5% and lift by 36%. In the interior, the main difference between the Performance version is the front seats with increased lateral support, expanded electrical adjustments, heating and ventilation.
The top version has a new dual-motor electric drive system. Continuous power increased by 22% and peak power by 32%, the company said. Maximum torque has increased by 16%, while energy consumption has been reduced by 2%. As a result, the total output of the electric motors now reaches 517 hp. and 741 Nm. Acceleration to 60 mph (97 km/h) has been reduced from 3.1 to 2.9 seconds, but this is measured with a coast-down at the start (according to drag racing rules, the coast-out is one foot, or 305 mm). The maximum speed is 262 km/h, and the driving range on a single charge is 476 km according to the American EPA cycle.
In addition to adding muscle, the Tesla Model 3 Performance has received a modified chassis. The suspension uses lighter and stiffer springs, adaptive shock absorbers have three operating modes – Standard, Sport and Track. The stabilization system now has more free settings, which, coupled with a reconfigured traction distribution (with an emphasis on the rear axle), promises exciting handling. The brakes have more durable pads, and the 20-inch wheels are shod with special Pirelli P Zero 4 tires, which combine increased grip and reduced rolling resistance.
Pre-orders for the updated Tesla Model 3 Performance sedans are already open in the United States. Prices start at $53,000 excluding dealer delivery and tax incentives.
