Mercedes-Benz presented the electric Gelendvagen. Maximum speed 180 km/h, very expensive

--

Mercedes-Benz has announced the electric Gelendvagen. Its official name is Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ technology.

The design remains square. The front now features a closed, illuminated grille like the 2021 concept.

The hood of the car became a little higher, and air curtains appeared in the rear arches. This is done to improve aerodynamics.

The electric Gelik can be purchased without a rear spare wheel. In this case, instead of it there will be a square box for storing charging.

The interior also resembles the regular G-Class in many ways, so much so that the differences aren’t immediately noticeable.

Now to the most interesting part: the characteristics. The car has four electric motors – one for each wheel. Together they produce 579 hp. and 1164 Nm of torque.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.7 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h. The battery will allow you to travel approximately 473 km on one charge.

The electric Gelendvagen is equipped with the G-Roar system, which simulates engine noise. Inspired by the “emotional V8 sounds” of the petrol range, G-Roar will use external speakers to produce sound that emulates the “deep bass and ringing tones” of petrol Gelicas. The sound will change depending on the driving mode.

It’s still an SUV. It can overcome fords up to 850 mm deep and slopes up to 35 degrees. The car has a virtual differential lock.

Another interesting thing: the electric car received the G-Turn tank turning function. It will work on loose, unpaved roads and only at low speeds.

Since this is an SUV, the engineers took care to protect the battery and covered it with a skid plate made from a “smart mixture of materials” including carbon. It is lighter than steel or aluminum protection and has better corrosion resistance.

Prices for the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology start at $152 thousand (~14.2 million rubles). But in the first year, only the Edition One version will be sold, which costs at least $205 thousand (~19.2 million rubles). The Edition One electric vehicle will be sold exclusively in the United States starting in the second half of 2024. [The Verge]
