By 2025, the BMW iX electric crossover is expected to be restyled, which, despite minimal visual changes, promises significant improvements under the hood. A prototype of the new BMW iX has been spotted in Europe, showing only minor design updates. In truth, making the iX truly compelling would require a complete redesign, but the current changes should at least bring the electric SUV’s appearance closer to classic BMW models. Noticeable are the updates to the headlights and bumpers, although the latter are not finalized for production models. At the front, the headlights will no longer feature a pair of LED daytime running lights along the top. Instead, the front units will get angled DRLs in the spirit of the design language introduced by the Neue Klasse X concept. This subtle change to the same housings as before the iX facelift will keep the electric car fresh without significant additional cost, but more importantly, it will prepare buyers for the next generation of the BMW X3 and its future styling, which will be followed by all future BMW models. At the rear, the clear lenses of the current iX lights have been replaced with red-tinted lenses. BMW has almost always favored elongated taillights with a simple horizontal shape and an upswept edge at each end, but red tails will make this a little more obvious and give the iX more character – something that’s especially needed on gray models. This is a truly remarkable electric car and with a bit more attractive looks it should gain a lot of popularity. According to reports from reliable sources, the LCI BMW iX will go on sale in March next year and will remain in production until mid-2028. The same sources indicate that the iX xDrive50 will be replaced by the iX xDrive60 with an increase in power from 516 to 535 hp. The M60 xDrive will be replaced by the M70 xDrive, which will offer 650 hp. Like several other current BMW production models, the grille will receive the Iconic Glow treatment with backlighting creating a distinctive night signature. The range will, of course, increase too, and we can expect some minor updates to the cabin.
