The Mitsubishi ASX SUV has been updated following the donor – Autoreview

--

Mitsubishi ASX crossover intended for Europe second generation saw the light only at the end of 2022, but its restyled version has already been prepared. This haste can be explained simply: the current ASX is the twin brother of the European Renault Captur SUV, which just recently survived the update. Now it’s the turn of its brother under the Japanese brand.

The restyling followed the same program as the Capture, but the original ears now stick out less clearly. For example, there is now no recess in the hood for the Renault logo, which looked strange on the Mitsubishi-branded version. The ASX has its own radiator grille and bumper with a massive air intake. However, the rear view camera still stands out on a separate podium, because the Capture has it built into a proprietary diamond, which the Mitsubishi ASX lacks.

Inside, the only difference from the updated Capture is the steering wheel hub with a different emblem. The Mitsubishi ASX also gained a new vertical media system display, the diagonal of which has been increased from 9.3 to 10.4 inches, and there is no longer a separate climate control unit: only a few hot keys remain, all other settings have been moved to the touch screen. The media system has gained support for Google services, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto protocols, as well as additional electronic driver assistants.

The engine range also went to Mitsubishi from Capture without changes. The younger turbocharged 1.0 TCE (90 hp) is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. A step higher is the 1.3 TCe four-cylinder turbo engine with a 12-volt starter-generator: for cars with a manual transmission, the engine is tuned to 140 hp, and with a seven-speed EDC robot – to 158 hp. The range also includes a full-fledged hybrid with a power plant E-Tech Renault company. It consists of a naturally aspirated 1.6, a three-shaft gearbox without synchronizers and a clutch, as well as a traction electric motor installed after the transmission. The total power is 143 hp, and the range is 900 km. All versions have front-wheel drive only.

The Mitsubishi ASX is produced at the same Spanish Renault plant in Valladolid where the Captur is made. Sales of the updated crossovers on the European market will begin in May.
