Chinese electric vehicle battery manufacturer CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited) presented at the Beijing Auto Show a new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a record range of more than 1,000 kilometers on a single charge. This is the world’s first LFP battery with such a range, said Gao Huang, chief technology officer of CATL’s electric vehicle division. LFP batteries are known for their environmental friendliness compared to the more common lithium-ion batteries in EVs. The new battery, called Shenxing Plus, will be a significant step forward in electric vehicle technology, allowing for significantly longer driving ranges without the need for frequent recharging. Currently, four car models use the current generation Shenxing battery with a range of 700 km, and more than 50 models will be equipped with it by the end of the year. This product line expansion underscores CATL’s commitment to leadership in innovation and clean technology.
