Omoda and Jaecoo at the Beijing Motor Show: three models for Russia

--

The presentation of the Omoda and Jaecoo brands at the Beijing Motor Show surprised journalists by the absence of the previously announced Omoda C7 crossover. At the same time, three other models were presented at the stand, which will soon reach Russia.

Omoda at the Beijing Auto Show

Omoda showed off the E5 electric crossover at the Beijing Auto Show. This car “Chinese Cars” was already seen last fall during a press tour to Wuhu, the homeland of Chery. But then the model acted as a pre-production one. Now we are talking about a completely commercial sample. It couldn’t be otherwise – recently the E5 has already gone on sale on the global market, in particular in Malaysia.

Let us remind you that the exterior of the crossover is made in a new design language called Light of Movement. The running lights, headlights and bumper of the E5 form a clear X-shape. Unlike a gasoline car, the electric car has a large blank panel in front. However, there is an active air intake at the bottom. It opens when additional cooling is needed, and in economical driving mode, on the contrary, it closes, reducing air resistance.

In the interior, the main difference between the E5 and the C5 is the head-up display and the absence of a gear selector on the central tunnel. There is 50W wireless charging for your smartphone. Later they promise to add it to the petrol Omoda.

On the technical side, the E5 is equipped with an electric motor producing 150 kW (204 hp) and 340 Nm. A traction battery with a capacity of 61 kWh provides a range of 430 km according to the European WLTP cycle. Using DC power of 80 kW, you can charge the battery from 30% to 80% in 28 minutes.

Well, the main question is: when will the model reach Russia? According to representatives of the brand, the process of obtaining OTTS is already being completed. And the start of car sales in Russia is scheduled for the end of the second quarter. That is, approximately in June.

Jaecoo showed in Beijing two hybrid crossovers J7 and J8 with PHEV prefixes. Externally, “mixed” cars differ from “regular” ones only in details. These are additional hatches on the sidewalls and new aerodynamic discs. The “seven” also had the exhaust pipes hidden in the rear bumper, while the “eight” still had them.

Changes are noticeable in the cabin. In particular, the Jaecoo J7 has a new central tunnel without a gear selector, which has moved behind the steering wheel and is made in the form of a steering column lever. A closer look reveals that even the central armrest has changed, now having two flaps.

As for the technical part, the Jaecoo J7 received it from the Explore 06 C-DM model, and the J8 received it from the Tiggo 9 C-DM. That is, the “seven” is equipped with a combination of a 1.5-liter hybrid internal combustion engine with a capacity of 156 hp. (220 Nm), two electric motors and a 3-speed DHT gearbox. The maximum range on a full tank and a fully charged battery should reach 1,400 km. The “Eight” is more powerful – its power plant is based on a 2-liter engine with 254 hp. It must travel at least 1300 km.
