The BMW fourth series family has been updated in its entirety – Autoreview

--

At the beginning of the year, the BMW 4 Series coupes and convertibles underwent a planned restyling. Now a similar amount of improvements has been made to the five-door versions – these are not only the fuel-powered “four” BMW Gran Coupe, but also the BMW i4 electric cars.

The main external change was the new LED headlights with vertical “fangs” of running lights. The edgings of the hypertrophied nostrils are now made of matte chrome, and gloss black is also offered for an additional fee. For an additional fee, the taillights can be equipped with Laserlight technology (soft, uniform glow): these first appeared on the extreme version of the BMW M4 CSL. The M Sport package has an updated rear diffuser and enlarged exhaust pipes. The range of body colors has been expanded to Cape York metallic green and Vegas red. Wheel design has been revised.

There are fewer physical buttons in the cabin, but the proprietary operating system, updated to version 8.5, now has a QuickSelect quick access menu. Just like a smartphone, you can set shortcuts to your most frequently used functions on your home screen. There are new finishing options for decorative elements, as well as improved Sensatec leatherette. Sports front seats are now installed as standard.

Engineers announce major improvements to the base 2.0 turbo engines: redesigned intake valves and combustion chambers, as well as modified settings for the injection, ignition and exhaust systems. But this did not affect the main characteristics. The range includes two-liter versions 420i (184 hp), 430i (245 hp) and 420d (190 hp), as well as three-liter six-cylinder M440i (374 hp) and 430d (286 hp). With.). All of them are equipped only with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The BMW i4 electric car still has two rear-wheel drive versions, eDrive35 (286 hp) and eDrive40 (340 hp), but has added an all-wheel drive twin-motor xDrive40 (401 hp). It can accelerate to “hundreds” in 5.1 s instead of 5.6 s for the single-engine “magpie,” but the rated range has been reduced from 600 to 548 km according to the WLTP cycle. At the top of the range remains the twin-engine BMW i4 M50 xDrive (544 hp) with acceleration to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and BMW i4 liftbacks are produced at the Munich plant. Sales of the updated cars will begin in July.
