Volkswagen called the id.Code concept car presented today at the motor show in the Middle Kingdom “Design A New Era”. The electric prototype is distinguished by an elegant silhouette, which, obviously, will be visible in the outlines of future models of the German concern over the coming years.

Since Volkswagen id.Code is primarily an example of the company’s new corporate identity, the Germans left its power plant and other technical details out of the presentation brackets, focusing on design, technology and new original features. The five-door with a sculpted, muscular body does not have a central roof pillar, and the rear doors swing open in the opposite direction.

The prototype’s usual side mirrors were replaced by tiny video cameras, and door handles were replaced by touch panels. The prototype with huge 24-inch wheels and a transparent roof has unusual head optics in the form of wide LED strips that look integral with the hood, bumper and wings of the car. The tail light spans the entire width of the body, the logos on the front and rear are luminous.

The concept’s interior, with front seats that swivel 180 degrees, looks more like a futuristic living room of the future. Ultraviolet lamps for air disinfection, antibacterial filters for air purification, and even a small robot vacuum cleaner help maintain a pleasant microclimate in it.

With Level 4 autonomy, the driver can remove the steering wheel, replacing the traditional steering wheel, and turn around to face the passengers. Various kinds of useful information from the weather to the battery level of the concept crossover can be displayed for them on a narrow display that spans the entire width of the front panel.
