The Lamborghini Urus supercrossover has become a rechargeable hybrid – Autoreview

--

The Lamborghini Urus crossover accounts for more than half of the Italian brand’s sales, although it debuted back in December 2017. It already had a planned update, but now the Urus has entered the next phase of its production cycle: the rechargeable hybrid Lamborghini Urus SE debuted at the Beijing Auto Show. This is Lamborghini’s second gas-electric model after the hypercar. Revuelto.

However, the crossover’s hybrid powertrain has nothing in common with the Revuelto’s four-motor setup. It is more likely to be related to a cross-platform crossover Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid. An electric motor (192 hp, 483 Nm) is built into the eight-speed automatic transmission, and the V8 4.0 biturbo engine is derated from 666 hp. and 850 Nm for the basic version of Urus S up to 620 hp. and 800 Nm. But still, the Urus SE became the most powerful in the range, because the peak output of its power plant reached 800 hp. and 950 Nm!

However, such outstanding performance had little effect on the acceleration dynamics. Urus SE exchanges the first “hundred” in 3.4 s versus 3.5 s for the base “esque” and 3.3 s for the Performante version. It’s all about the curb weight, which has increased to 2540 kg, which is 190 kg more than its gasoline counterparts. This difference was primarily ensured by a traction battery with a capacity of 25.9 kWh, which is installed in the trunk underground and provides 60 km of range in purely electric mode.

However, if the first jerk is harder for the hybrid Urus than for the gasoline versions, then further acceleration becomes more vigorous. The Urus SE accelerates to 200 km/h in 11.2 seconds, while the S version takes 12.8 seconds and the Performante takes 12.4 seconds. The maximum speed of the hybrid is also higher – 312 km/h instead of 305 km/h for both petrol variants. In purely electric mode, the crossover can reach 130 km/h. The driving electronics have acquired additional modes EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance and Recharge in addition to the already known Strada, Sport, Corsa, Neve, Sabbia and Terra.

In addition to the electric add-on, the hybrid also features a different all-wheel drive transmission. Instead of a Torsen center differential, an electro-hydraulic clutch is installed (like the Cayenne), and instead of an active rear differential, there is a conventional open differential with electronically simulated locking. All this allowed us to save 20 kg of weight.

There were also visual differences from their gasoline counterparts. The Urus SE has a larger beak hood, different headlights and an original front bumper. Enlarged air intakes improved cooling of the engine compartment by 15%. The redesigned tail, with a massive black bar between the lights, not only looks more like a Lamborghini supercar, but also helps increase downforce by 35%. There are wheels with diameters ranging from 21 to 23 inches to choose from.

The salon has 47 color combinations, and it also has new things. This is an enlarged media system screen (12.3 inches), a different block of toggle switches on the center console, different linings and ventilation deflectors. The hybrid Urus SE will go on sale in the summer, and this version will remain in service for at least another four years, because the all-electric second-generation Urus should not appear until 2028.
