Film projects with the Bridget Jones star + new films and TV series of the week

still from the movie “Jerry Maguire”

A new reason for the weekly selection is the anniversary of the star of Bridget Jones (18+) and Knockdown (18+). On April 25, Renee Zellweger turned 55 years old. On this occasion, let’s remember the projects with her participation that are worth reviewing or evaluating for the first time. Let’s not forget about the latest films and TV series of the week.

Films and TV series with Renee Zellweger

“Jerry Maguire” (18+)

This sports drama written by Cameron Crowe is far from the most famous film starring Tom Cruise, but the project made Zellweger a world-class star. Both Cameron Diaz and Courtney Love were considered for this role, but Crowe chose Zellweger, and he clearly made the right decision.

The story of a sports agent who was kicked out of his job after a conflict with his boss. Jerry decided to create his own company, but the task turned out to be too difficult. Fortunately, he was supported by his beloved named Dorothy.

“True Values” (18+)

A couple of years after Maguire, Zellweger was already in high demand, but still not in leading roles. Carl Franklin’s tear-jerking drama is a great example. Together with Meryl Streep and William Hurt, Renee Zellweger plays out a life situation in front of us, after meeting which you will definitely be impressed.

The Streep shines here, of course. She plays the role of a woman who has heard a terrible diagnosis. Her daughter, a daring and ambitious journalist, is forced to end her career to help her sick mother. It is this decision that will allow the heroine to take a different look at life values.

“Cold Mountain” (18+)

Later in Zellweger’s career there were “Bridget Jones’s Diary” (18+) and “Chicago” (18+), but we should focus on the war drama by Anthony Minghella. For her role in this film, our heroine received her first Oscar, albeit for the “supporting role”. The cast of the film, of course, is truly Hollywood: Jude Law, Nicole Kidman and Brendan Gleeson.

An adaptation of Charles Fraser’s novel about the poor carpenter Inman and the priest’s daughter Ada. The man and woman were destined to meet each other on the very threshold of the Civil War. In another massacre, Inman is wounded, and after that he decides to flee from the front for the sake of his beloved.

“Miss Potter” (18+)

There are less heart-warming projects in Renée Zellweger’s career, but Chris Noonan’s biographical drama, which also starred Ewan McGregor and Emily Watson, still remains one of the kindest and most heartfelt films of the mid-2000s. Zellweger, by the way, shone again here, earning a Golden Globe nomination.

The film is about the writer Beatrix Potter, who wrote fairy tales and created illustrations for them at the end of the 19th century. Not everyone understood what the woman was doing, but a trip to Norman Warne’s publishing house changed everything. Firstly, Potter became a real celebrity, and secondly, she found strong love.

“Case No. 39” (18+)

Renee Zellweger impresses not only in dramatic films. Christian Alvart’s film is proof of this; it is a 100% horror film, where Zellweger faces primordial evil and tries to defeat it. Something in the style of “The Omen”, but thanks to strong acting parts – in some ways even better than its predecessor.

Social worker Emily saves the little girl Lilith from her distraught parents and decides to take the poor girl into her home. Soon people around begin to die. Alas, the woman realizes too late that Lilith is not just a child, but a real demon.

“Something About Pam” (18+)

A crime series based on murders and manipulations carried out by one American woman, deceiving the whole of America. Renee Zellweger’s outstanding performance makes the show worth checking out.

Betsy Faria was murdered in 2011. Her husband, Russ, was found guilty of the crime. A couple of years later, the investigation into the case was resumed. New circumstances have come to light revealing a fraudulent scheme in which Betsy and her friend Pam Hupp were involved. As it turned out later, Faria was not the only victim, and the police also changed their suspect – Pam became him.

To the cinema

“Dugout” (18+)

A military science fiction film by Mark Gorobets, which knocked Guy Ritchie’s new film out of distribution. Starring: Alexander Metelkin and Daniel Littau.

The story is about two friends who, by chance, are transported from modern times to 1941 and find themselves in the thick of the Great Patriotic War.

“Indecent guests” (18+)

A comedy with Maxim Lagashkin and Pavel Priluchny on a topic that is not customary for us to talk about. Goga Mamajanyan’s film is about a married couple whose peaceful life is spoiled only by noisy and passionate neighbors who soon come to visit for a dinner party. The feast is interrupted when that very indecent proposal is heard at the table, embarrassing half of those present.

“Why do you?” (18+)

Another Russian premiere is a melodrama from Alexander Prost based on his own book, in which Daniil Vorobyov and Angelina Zagrebina played.

A story about a rich man who spends every night with new women. That was until I met a student in need of money. Soon a passionate romance broke out between them, which threatens to destroy the protagonist’s career.

“Astral. Whispers of the Dead” (18+)

A joint work of filmmakers from Korea and Indonesia, which is not related to the original “Insidious” (18+). A horror film about a seance that ends in disaster – ghosts begin to take revenge on its participants, and only the former school outcast Alex can stop the bloody massacre.

“The Adventures of a Panda” (6+)

There was also a project for children – a cartoon, on which animators from France, Denmark and other countries worked. A story of bravery for the sake of boundless friendship, in which a brave black and white bear goes to Africa to save his dragon friend.

“Prime Number Theory” (18+)
