German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany does not recognize referendums on the entry of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into Russia. Plebiscites in these territories should be held from 23 to 27 September.

“Russia must withdraw its troops. Ukraine has every right to defend the integrity and sovereignty of its country and its democracy, we support Ukraine in this. It is absolutely clear that these fictitious referendums cannot be accepted, that they are not covered by international law and the understanding reached by the world community,” Mr. Scholz said before the start of the UN General Assembly in New York (TASS quote).

Today, September 20, the People’s Council of the DPR announced that a referendum on the republic’s entry into Russia will be held from September 23 to 27. On the same days, the referendum will be held in the LPR and Kherson and Zaporozhye regions controlled by the Russian military. According to RBC, today Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to address the Russians on the subject of holding referendums.
