Yesterday studio Crystal Dynamics unexpectedly released 2013’s Tomb Raider in MS Store. The release was accompanied by the fact that the studio incorrectly set the price tag for the game, which is why the game was available for free for some time. However, many users did not notice another, much more important event against this background.

The fact is that it was released in the MS Store Definitive Edition a version of the game that has not previously been released on PC and has been a console exclusive for more than 10 years. In the Definitive Edition, the developers improved many models (including the model of Lara herself), added support for TressFX 2.0, improved lighting, and also integrated all the DLC into the game. A full comparison of the regular and DE versions is available on our website. Thus, PC players received a better version of the game. In addition, it is reported that the game now supports the function Play Anywhereso the buyer receives the game for both Xbox and PC at once.

It is noteworthy that, unlike the original game, the publisher of the Definitive Edition was the Crystal Dynamics studio itself, which moved away from Square Enix 2 years ago. Apparently, the studio either on its own initiative or with the support Microsoft, decided to transfer the re-release to PC and please fans of the series. At the same time, players reported that Lara Croft’s forms were not affected at all in the Definitive Edition. We can only hope that the Definitive Edition will soon become available in Steam.
