In the village of Turuntaevo, Pribaikalsky district, a labor veteran celebrated his anniversary. On April 22, Vasily Ugryumov turned 95 years old, the Ministry of Social Protection of Buryatia reported.
– Like most people of the older generation, Vasily Leonidovich has a long and difficult life behind him, which he passed with honor, dignity and earned the respect and recognition of others.
The long-lived man has many awards for his career. He always remained indifferent to the problems of his fellow villagers. Until his retirement, he headed a voluntary people’s squad, helped maintain order in the village and was a public court inspector.
“I’ve been used to working since I was a teenager. When the war started, I had to quit school and go to work on a collective farm. After the war, I completed eight classes in absentia, then college. As a former combine operator, I remember well that once large fields of wheat were sown around Turuntaevo and neighboring villages,” the hero of the day shared.
For 15 years now, the veteran has been managing the house and household chores alone. In a village hut there are photographs of relatives on the walls. In a place of honor are photographs of his son, who was a liquidator of the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident and was awarded the Order of Courage. He is no longer alive, as is his wife Nina.
Vasily Leonidovich spends the whole day in trouble. He has no time to sit: he has to clean the yard, bring water, and cook food. His two cars are running, the owner strictly monitors them and repairs them himself. In summer he has a large vegetable garden. He plants potatoes, the beds are always tidy, and the flowers in the front garden are pleasing to the eye.
– Any business is argued in the hands of Vasily Leonidovich. He does not give in to illness and adversity. At the same time, he charges others with his energy, kindness and optimism.
