Moscow schoolchildren won 10 medals at the XV International Tournament in Informatics IATI (International Advanced Tournament in Informatics – John Atanasoff), which was held in Bulgaria. Teams from more than 15 countries competed for victory in the senior and junior age categories.

Students from Moscow schools were selected to participate in the tournament based on the results of the final stage of the All-Russian Olympiad for Schoolchildren in Informatics.

“The remarkable result of our guys at the prestigious international tournament is a natural development of the success that the Moscow team achieved at the All-Russian School Olympiad. I am sure that in just a few years we will see the achievements of our winners in science and high technology. Now their victories motivate other schoolchildren to study mathematics and programming in depth, to enroll in classes of the Mathematical Vertical, Mathematical Class, IT classes, and to come to clubs that are open in Moscow schools, universities, and IT companies,” said the scientist Head of the Center for Pedagogical Excellence Ivan Yashchenko.

Russian schoolchildren competed for victory remotely using a proctoring system – a procedure for electronic control over the quality and reliability of the test. The tournament participants solved six problems in the C/C++ programming language.

In the senior age category, gold was won by Timofey Izhitsky and Dmitry Trusov from the school of the Center for Pedagogical Excellence (CPM), Egor Salygin from school No. 57 and Konstantin Belousko from the boarding school named after A.N. Kolmogorov Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov – silver. Among the juniors, Anton Barisov from the TsPM school managed to win the gold medal, and the silver medalists were Maxim Umnov from school No. 179, Savva Dyatlov from the Second School Lyceum, Artemy Grinenko from the Vorobyovy Gory school, Dmitry and Alexey Yankovsky from school No. 171.

The International Informatics Tournament has been held in Bulgaria since 2009. Russian schoolchildren have been participating in it since 2014. The competition is held for two age groups: students under 16 years old and high school students.

Metropolitan schoolchildren who are interested in computer science and programming often choose to study in pre-professional IT and engineering classes. They also have access to specialized clubs, and examples of Olympiad tasks are also found in basic school lessons. Thus, preparation for competitions and the development of students’ talent in this area are integrated into the educational process.

Ensuring high-quality preparation of capital schoolchildren for Olympiads corresponds to the objectives of the “Success of Every Child” project of the national project “Education”. More information about this and other national projects implemented in Moscow can be found here.
