The Komi State Council will consider amendments to the law on state support for children living in foster families at a meeting on April 24.

The proposal presented by the Ministry of Education and Science is to establish an indexation coefficient of 1.04 for two types of payments.

During meetings of State Council committees on April 23, Minister of Education and Science Natalya Yakimova announced a proposal to index the amount of monthly funds provided for the maintenance of orphans and children without parental care living in foster families, as well as the amount of payment for heating, lighting, current home repairs, purchasing furniture and paying for household services. Indexation will be 4 percent.

At the moment, the size of the monthly payment depends on the child’s age and place of residence and ranges from 9,845 to 13,897 rubles, and the amount of the additional payment varies from 790 to 1,798 rubles. After the adoption of the law, these amounts will be increased by 4 percent.

Indexation also applies to amounts already paid, which means that adoptive families will receive additional compensation for previous periods. Currently, 1,954 families in Komi receive such payments.
