The main program of the 77th Cannes Film Festival included Kirill Serebrennikov’s film “Limonov, the Ballad of Eddie.” The main female role in the film is played by 29-year-old Victoria Miroshnichenko.

Victoria Miroshnichenko became famous in 2019 when she played one of the main roles in Kantemir Balagov’s film “Dylda”. For him, she received the title of laureate of the Siberian Prize for Worthy Deeds “Verbs of Irkutsk Time”, many international awards and was nominated for the European Film Academy Award in the category “Best Actress”.

As the actress’s mother Olga said in an interview, she is looking forward to the premiere because it will be a good gift for her daughter’s 30th birthday. Olga is very proud of Victoria’s successes.

The film is based on the novel Lemons by French writer Emmanuel Carrère. It describes the biography of the writer and poet Eduard Limonov: childhood in Kharkov, moving to Moscow, where he joined the dissident environment, emigration to the USA, Paris, becoming a successful writer, returning to his homeland after the collapse of the USSR, political activity in Russia and prison.

Victoria Miroshnichenko plays Elena Shchapova, Limonov’s second wife. Shchapova and Limonov were together after she left her first husband, the wealthy artist Viktor Shchapov. Moreover, Elena went to the “eternally hungry” poet Ed, who was a guest in their house; Shchapov invited him. She left because she liked his poems. Elena considered herself an established poet, and she would give one of the poems to Eduard with the inscription “I love you very much! And many of these poems are dedicated to you.” Their marriage will not last long, and soon Elena Shchapova will become the first Russian model in New York.

The main competition of the festival, which will be held on May 14-25, 2024, includes 20 films, including “Megapolis” by Francis Ford Coppola, “Parthenope” by Paolo Sorrentino, “Shrouds” by David Cronenberg, “Types of Kindness” by Yorgos Lanthimos. The list of nominees also included Sean Baker’s film Anora, in which Russian actors Yuri Borisov and Mark Eidelstein played.

“Limonov, the Ballad of Eddie” is the fifth work by Kirill Serebrennikov, which was included in the program of the Cannes Film Festival. Previously, this honor was awarded to “The Apprentice” (2016), “Summer” (2018), “Petrovs in the Flu” (2021) and “Tchaikovsky’s Wife” (2022).
