“This is not a feat, but ordinary help.” Kirov resident Mikhail Polyakov spoke about saving a girl from the 4th floor cornice

--

Last weekend, the Kirov region was shocked by the situation with a girl who ended up on the ledge of the 4th floor of an apartment building on Pavel Korchagin in Comintern. A caring townsman, 38-year-old Mikhail Polyakov, saved her from falling. He shared the details of the incident with the Svoykirovsky portal.

“I made a decision – I need to save it”

According to Mikhail, in the morning he received a call from a friend, a member of the SVO, who returned home with an injury. He asked me to take him shopping by car.

On the way back it was already hot, we were looking for a parking place to buy water. At that moment I saw a crowd of people standing on the street, people looking up. I thought: something unhealthy. We decided to stop here since there is also a store nearby. At the same time, let’s go see what’s going on.

From the car I saw that the girl was standing on the ledge of the 4th floor. The crowd was filming on their phones, some called the police, some called the Ministry of Emergency Situations, some called an ambulance. I understood that the girl was small and did not have much strength to hang on the balcony for a long time. I made a decision – I need to save it. I noticed that on the 5th floor the balcony is not glazed; you can go down through it and protect the girl from falling.

I roughly figured out where the entrance was. I called the first apartment I came across through the intercom. I could get to the 4th floor and pick the girl off the balcony. But there was no one in this apartment, they didn’t open it. It turned out that I ended up with a neighbor from the 3rd floor, who had a key to the apartment on the 5th floor. I explained the situation to her and asked to see her. He went out onto the balcony, climbed over the railing and began to go down. They managed to immediately cover the girl with her body, which protected her from falling. He held her with one hand and held himself with the other.

There would have been a satellite dish in the trajectory of the fall, if this had happened. They usually have a pin sticking out. I thought that if the girl was turned upside down, it would just be trash. Such thoughts also flashed.

“At my age I understood that the situation was serious”

At some point I saw that the window right in front of us was open. He calmed the girl down, opened the door for her, and we took turns going inside. Then she told me that she was trying to get down from the 5th floor. At that age I understood that the situation was serious. I tried not to say too much. She indicated that she was doing gymnastics. She wanted to go for a walk, tried to go down from the 5th floor, since it was easy for her. He also asked about his parents. She replied that they had left on business. She is 8-9 years old, she is a schoolgirl. He told me not to worry.

At that time, firefighters had already arrived. Since the door on the balcony was closed, they suggested that I break it down. I pressed and we went inside. And then the girl told me that this was not her apartment, and we went back. At that moment, the Ministry of Emergency Situations employees asked if the girl was safe and put out a ladder for us to go down. The rescuer had already taken the child, and I was holding the ladder, as the top of her head was wobbly. The frightened girl was then put into an ambulance. I brought lemonade and gave it to her through the doctors. It was still hot. Then the local police officers interviewed me and found out how it all happened.

“There was a possibility that they wouldn’t make it in time”

Initially, when I saw the girl, I understood that this should be done by special services. However, time was short. There was a possibility that they wouldn’t make it in time. And I also didn’t know which emergency vehicle would arrive. How equipped she would be for such a rescue. I also appreciated the fact that it was impossible to drive up to the house because of the moat with water.

Maybe it’s some kind of army skills. It used to be different when we served for two years. Observation and correct assessment of actions helped. I also used to play sports. And when I was 16, I had an angry dog in my yard that periodically attacked people. Once I had to protect my neighbor and covered her with myself. The dog then bit me. Not too bad, just a few wounds on my arm. Nothing special happened before, I never saved anyone.

“This can happen to anyone”

When we went down, I saw the girl’s parents. I didn’t ask them anything. Their eyes are downcast, the people are sad. The family looks normal, they work. Not alcoholics, that was obvious. My parents never contacted me. I don’t think there’s any point in this. What is done is done. They have enough trouble now. I would not want them to be deprived of parental rights; there is no need to punish them severely. This can happen to anyone.

“I like to improve at work”

I am the director of a company, engaged in construction, apartment renovation, and sale of decorative plaster. Divorced, but my wife and I continue to live together. I am raising a daughter, she is 2.9 years old. In my free time I like to improve my work and study. Technologies are moving forward. Before I had time to master one thing, a new one appeared. There are no particular hobbies. We spend time with our daughter; last year I went skiing. I want to buy a set of skis because many of my friends are doing this. There’s just no time.

“I didn’t do anything special”

Today they called from the Investigative Committee and asked for my information for the award. For me this is a little wild. Any man in such a situation should have done something, and not just stood there and filmed. Time is ticking. There was, of course, a share of fear, but there was more of a desire to be in time. I have a small child myself, I understand what it is. Thoughts about the possibility of slipping and falling, of course, flashed through my mind. When I ran onto the balcony, I realized that it was better to put aside my nerves. The height is not to say that it is deadly. The chance of survival was great.

Didn’t do anything special. This is not a feat, but ordinary help. Just like taking an old lady across the road. Russians should help each other, no? Now the guys on the border are performing feats, but here… When it’s calm in the rear, they’re also calm.

The editors of the Svoykirovsky portal could not remain indifferent, and at the end of the conversation we gave Mikhail Polyakov a small gift.
