In May, new plays and musicals will be shown at the music theater. Tours of Russian troupes are carried out with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. In this selection we will tell you about new readings of famous stories.
1. Musical “The Captain’s Daughter”
April 27, 28 and May 17, 18
The musical “The Captain’s Daughter” is based on the famous plot of Alexander Pushkin, familiar from school literature lessons. However, this time Russian Dashing becomes one of the key centers of action. Metaphysical power reflects the entire spectrum of terrible and beautiful things that happened and are happening in Rus’.
The creators of the play do not make unambiguous judgments about the characters and their actions. They present two points of view, a dialogue between two truths, leaving the viewer the freedom to judge for themselves whose side to take: Grinev, Shvabrin, Masha Mironova or Pugachev.
2. Performance “The Little Prince”
May 1 and 4, 13:00
Based on the fairy tale by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, translated by Nora Gal, this is a story that touchingly addresses the most important themes: friendship and loneliness, beauty and the rejection of evil. Together with the main character, young viewers will go on a journey to different planets, exploring the world. Parents will be able to appreciate the philosophical depth of the text.
3. Concert “Spring Carnival”
May 1 and 5, 17:00
Actors of the Academic Drama Theater named after. L.N. Tolstoy will perform a festive musical concert in Kaliningrad. The organizers promise the performance of your favorite songs, bright performances and spring mood.
4. The play “Yesenin. To be a poet”
May 2, 19:00
The performance, dedicated to the life and work of the great Russian poet Sergei Yesenin, is not just a theatrical performance, but a kind of confession. The facts of the writer’s biography are intertwined in action with memories and feelings, dreams and suffering.
5. Performance “Elsa’s Land”
May 3, 19:00
In the play by Yaroslava Pulinovich, one of the most sought-after contemporary Russian playwrights, true love flashes before the viewer’s eyes. Widowed Elsa and retired geography teacher Vasily lived a difficult life, in which there was much more pain and sorrow than moments of joy. Late falling in love becomes the last spark of hope for the heroes among the greyness, envy and dirt. Starring: People’s Artist of Russia Zinaida Rumyantseva and Honored Artist of Russia Khurram Kasymov.
6. Performance “He has come!” Saw! Loved it!”
May 4, 17:00
The performance is a real experiment, staged with strong respect for the classics, although without excessive seriousness. Three talented artists took two jokes by Anton Chekhov and, like researchers, tried to discern the heroes of small plays under a magnifying glass.
7. Performance “We will survive”
May 10, 19:00
The action takes viewers to 1944, to the former master’s estate in the town of Besed before the start of the Belarusian offensive operation. Captain Mikhasev, a front-line reconnaissance soldier, must prepare 4 girls for a particularly important task. But where and for what purpose the heroines will be sent remains a mystery. “We Will Survive” talks about love in all its manifestations, recalling the strength of the human spirit and eternal values.
8. The musical “Mary Poppins”
May 11 and 12, 17:00
The family musical “Mary Poppins” is a good fairy-tale story familiar to everyone. Viewers will see the same heroes and hear the same songs by M. Dunaevsky – “Bad Weather”, “Lady Perfection”, “The Lion and the Barber”, “33 Cows” and, of course, “Wind of Change”.
9. Musical “The Adventures of a Titled Person”
May 19, 17:00
Composer Yuliana Donskaya and libretto author Evgeny Muravyov created a light and bright musical composition, permeated with London motifs, from the famous adventures of Prince Florizel based on the stories of R. Stevenson. The musical’s characters play out a detective story, moving from dramatic scenes to dance and musical numbers.
10. “Romance of the Guitar.” Los Caballeros Guitarist Ensemble
May 22, 19:00
Los Caballeros is an ensemble of guitarists created by teacher and composer N.V. Shelukhin in 2001. Performed by 55 guitarists, viewers will hear Russian, Cuban and Spanish melodies. The program includes the best romantic works by Alexei Rybnikov, Eduard Artemyev, Alexander Zatsepin, Gennady Gladkov, Henry Mancini, Sting and Frank Sinatra.
11. Performance “Scarlet Sails”
May 24, 19:00
“Scarlet Sails” is an extravaganza story by Alexander Green about unshakable faith and an all-conquering, sublime dream. About how everyone can perform a miracle for a loved one.
12. Musical “Vivat, Munchausen!”
May 25, 11:00
Everyone knows that Baron Munchausen is a very enterprising and cheerful person, a dreamer who finds adventure and sees the unusual even in the most ordinary situations. The baron visited our region twice; there is even a historical record of this. And it was in Kaliningrad that the “Grandchildren of Munchausen” society was founded. The musical “Vivat, Munchausen!” just about the adventures of the descendants of the famous baron.
