Footsteps, rustling clothes, laughter and other familiar sounds are part of a great movie. To make the sound clearer, sound engineers recreate them after filming. Force majeure also happens. Gleb Anikeichik, a student at the Institute of Cinema and Television, encountered them. During editing, all sound from the film Noida: Witches of the North was completely lost.
The film contained a large part in the Sami language. The Sami are a northern people living in the Murmansk region, very small in number. Finding language consultants was not easy. There are no native speakers in St. Petersburg at all.

The work of a novice sound engineer will surprise viewers at the Intonations film festival. The brainchild was created by sound masters in 2014 on the basis of the Institute of Film and Television. Such creative propaganda aroused genuine interest not only among industry professionals, but also among newcomers.
This year, sound engineering students from 10 Russian schools are taking part in the competition. Students from abroad are breathing down their necks. The jury faces a difficult task – to choose the best.
59 works in the genre of animation, feature and non-fiction films will be presented to a professional jury.
We evaluate first of all on artistic parameters, that is, we understand that these are student works, so there may be some shortcomings, the work is not quite professional from the point of view of sound engineers. But the most important thing is that they are interesting in thought, that they have artistic taste, style and understanding of the task in general.

Each season has a new jury. The 10th anniversary festival “Intonations” is attended by masters of their craft – sound and film directors, artists and foreign stars. It all depends on the school, I mean the training programs. There is a French school, a New York school, and in Los Angeles they also teach in their own way. I am sure that I have a special approach based on sensuality. But yes, people do as they were taught, sometimes following rigid guidelines. But this is not my case.
