More than 180 Trans-Ural residents compete in 27 competencies

A few days ago, the opening of the IX regional championship in professional skills among disabled people and people with disabilities “Abilimpix” took place in Kurgan. During the week, more than 180 Trans-Ural residents will compete in 27 skills: knitting, carpentry, sign art, baking and others.

At the Social Service Center No. 1 in the city of Kurgan, participants showed their skills in beading and knitting. There are five craftswomen in each category; on the table in front of them is everything necessary for creativity: yarn and knitting needles, beads, needles and scissors. They have four hours left – during this time they must have time to knit a handbag with a bow and make a brooch in the shape of a hare.

“All participants have different disability groups, and adapted workplaces have been created for them. A month and a half before the championship, each master received information about how the competition would be held – they trained at home and practiced their skills. But there they had no time limits, but here – only four hours,” said Larisa Filimonova, head of the methodological service of the Social Service Center No. 1 in the city of Kurgan.

This is not the first time for some to participate in the championship. Olga Murashova from the city of Shchuchye had already fought for victory in previous years – she brought home first and second places. She says she is determined to win: “Last time, I think, we knitted a hat and it was easier than a bag. There are several drawings, combinations… I’m also interested in sewing – I can make everything: from bedsheets to life-size dolls.”

The participants’ work is evaluated by an expert jury. In knitting, for example, they take into account the uniformity of patterns, adherence to the pattern, neatness of the front and back sides, and compliance with safety regulations. Each one produces a product that is absolutely different from other works – bright, with its own characteristics and with a piece of soul.

Natalya Kirilova, Deputy Governor of the Kurgan Region for Social Policy, greeted the participants in a video message, wishing them good luck in the competition and in achieving their goals.

This year, regional stages of Abilympics are being held in 89 regions of the country. In the Kurgan region, the championship for schoolchildren, students and professionals is held at 14 sites. The winners of the regional stage will be able to take part in the national championship, which will be held in October in Moscow.
