The winners of the regional competition for the guards of Post No. 1 “In Memory of the Fallen – Worthy!” Today we took up an honorary watch at the memorial complex “Eternal Flame of Glory” in Irkutsk. The press service of the regional government reported this on April 24, 2024.

Schoolchildren from cities and districts of the region for the first time had the opportunity to carry out an honorary watch at Irkutsk Post No. 1 on the eve of Victory Day. These are 60 children from 10 municipalities: Bratsk, Svirsk, Usolye-Sibirsky, Alarsky, Bokhansky, Irkutsky, Nukutsky, Osinsky, Shelekhovsky and Ekhirit-Bulagatsky districts.

The teams will carry out the Memory Watch for three weeks. Schoolchildren from Bratsk, Nukutsky and Osinsky districts were the first to arrive at Post No. 1 today. The consolidated Guard of Honor of the best guards of Irkutsk will take the baton on May 7.

The first competition for the best watchmen “In memory of the fallen – worthy!” took place in a remote format from February to April 2024. About two hundred students in grades 8-11 from 20 municipalities took part in it.

On behalf of the Governor of the Irkutsk Region, Igor Kobzev, the Ministry of Education of the region, together with the Department of Education of Irkutsk, for the first time organized and held a competition for the best guards of Post No. 1. The tradition of carrying out the Memory Watch by the best schoolchildren and students during the celebration of Victory Day at memorial sites and memorials dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War exists in many municipalities of the Angara region, but the history of Post No. 1 of Irkutsk deserves special attention as the most important center of patriotic education in the regional center, – emphasized the Minister of Education of the Irkutsk region Maxim Parfenov.

The head of the department added that Post No. 1 was solemnly opened in Irkutsk on May 10, 1975 in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Great Victory, and today it is one of the few Post No. 1 in Russia that has not stopped its work for more than 45 years, its experience is also in demand at the regional level.

Today there will also be a meeting of the postmen with the Minister of Education Maxim Parfenov and the representative of the regional patriotic public organization “Generals Club of the Irkutsk Region”, Major General of the RF Armed Forces Vladimir Shipov. A cultural and educational program has been prepared for the event participants, including excursions around Irkutsk and the village of Listvyanka, a visit to the Patriot city center and the planetarium of secondary school No. 19, and meetings with activists of the First Movement.
