The capital’s rescuers are preparing reservoirs for the start of the swimming season. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing, Communal Services and Improvement, Pyotr Biryukov.

“Divers of the Moscow City Search and Rescue Service at water bodies began to examine the bottom of reservoirs located in recreation areas with the possibility of swimming. The main task is to detect and remove accumulated debris and traumatic objects that could get into the water during the autumn-winter period. About 40 rescuers are involved in one stage of the examination,” noted Pyotr Biryukov.

Reservoirs are prepared in several stages. Rescuers are currently removing household and natural debris and inspecting coastlines. They will do another cleanup in May, including removing small debris. Another examination is scheduled for July, at the height of the swimming season.

Water safety in the capital is ensured all year round by employees of 25 search and rescue stations and the fire and rescue station of the Moscow City Search and Rescue Service on water bodies, where over 500 specialists work. They control the entire water area of the Moscow River and inland waters.
