In April alone, two “interesting” coffee shops opened in Kaliningrad. By the 2024 season, there will be 20% more such points. This opinion was voiced by the head of one of the coffee shop chains in the region, Denis Parkhomenko, in an interview with RIA Baltic Plus. According to him, over the past year the price of coffee has risen very much – by 30% – 35%. And coffee shops increase prices by only 10% per year. “Otherwise the guest simply won’t understand it,” says Parkhomenko. “Before the season, many already raised prices by 10%, but this was forced. In the middle or at the end of summer, prices in coffee shops will rise again,” the expert predicts, but does not say by how much specifically. Denis Parkhomenko also explained the popularity of coffee shops in the region:

“It’s not always about the product itself. The point is in the tradition of buying coffee, the point is to come to the barista and pay for this glass of coffee with a smile. There are three waves of coffee shops: instant coffee shops, the so-called Starbucks Coffee wave, when we started adding syrup to coffee, and the third wave – Specialty coffee shops. Everyone there knows about grain, where they prepare a tasty and interesting product. More second coffee shops will open in Kaliningrad than third ones. Because the third ones are hard to open.”

Denis Parkhomenko added that many owners are switching to a cheaper product. “When raf is prepared with milk instead of cream, it is already cappuccino,” the expert said.
