More than 200 events will be held in Irkutsk on Victory Day

More than 200 events are planned in Irkutsk to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Most of them start on May 7. The press service of the city administration reports this in 2024.

Program:

• On May 7 at 11:00 a funeral ceremony will traditionally take place at the Amur Cemetery. On the same day at 11:30 a solemn event will be held at the monument to Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgy Zhukov. Wreaths and flowers will be laid at the memorial and monument.
• On May 9 at 11:00 on Count Speransky Square, in front of the regional government building, a festive procession of units of the Russian Ministry of Defense and law enforcement agencies of the Irkutsk garrison will begin. There will be demonstrations and demonstrations of military equipment.
• From 13:00 to 18:00 everyone is invited to a concert at the monument to Alexander III. A platform dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Soviet and Russian poet Bulat Okudzhava will be organized at 9 Gagarina Boulevard. It will be possible to take part in the “Open Microphone” event: perform patriotic songs or read poems on military topics, including works by Bulat Shalvovich.
• Also, from 12:00 to 16:00, a festive program will be organized for residents and guests of the city in the Kirov park.
• The main concert “Victory Day” will take place on Count Speransky Square from 14:30 to 21:45. The program will be opened by the Governor’s Symphony Orchestra. Creative groups from the city will perform on stage with vocal and choreographic performances.
• At 22:00 the holiday will end with fireworks on the Lower Embankment.

For the safety of citizens, law enforcement officers will work during the events.

Events dedicated to the 79th anniversary of the Victory will be held in all districts of the city. Including thematic exhibitions, sports competitions, lessons of courage and classroom hours in educational institutions, patriotic events and assistance to veterans, as well as families of participants in a special military operation.
