Every spring, many Russian summer residents begin to actively prepare for the planting season. Analysts from SDEK and VseInstrumenty.ru analyzed the demand for seeds, soil and seedlings in Russia.

The online hypermarket of goods for the home, garden, construction and repair VseInstrumenty.ru and the international express delivery operator SDEK analyzed the demand for soil, seeds and seedlings in March 2024 and compared these data with the same period last year.

Demand for category products “Seeds” increased in Russia by 109% compared to March 2023, the average bill was 232 rubles. A significant increase in interest in the category was noted in St. Petersburg (+171%), Samara (+147%), Voronezh (+146%), Perm (+123%) and Moscow (+112%). Most often, seeds of vegetables, herbs and flowers were purchased in these regions.

Demand priming in March 2024 in Russia grew by 107%. The average bill was 541 rubles. Soil for planting was most actively purchased in Samara (+200%), St. Petersburg (+124%), Perm (+109%), Moscow (+85%) and Rostov-on-Don (+78%).

According to SDEK, the number of shipments with the name “Saplings”: 85% compared to March 2023. There is also significant growth in the category “Priming” (65%). “Seeds” grew by less than 5%. The SDEK company noted that it is necessary to prepare seedlings for transportation only in the original packaging with a certificate of conformity and a phytosanitary certificate.
