Rostov-on-Don will compete for the title of cultural capital of the country 2026

Rostov-on-Don is included in the list of candidate cities that will compete for the right to become the cultural capital of Russia in 2026. You can already take part in voting on the State Services portal.

In total, there are 26 participants in the popular vote: from Rostov-on-Don to Vladivostok. The purpose of the competition is to support the cultural development of different regions of the country and their economic and tourism potential.

In addition to the popular vote, participants will undergo a second stage, which consists of an expert assessment. The first phase has already begun, while the second phase will begin on September 12. The winner will be announced towards the end of the year, on December 12th.

The Gosuslugi portal clarifies that the title “Cultural Capital of the Year” provides new opportunities for the socio-economic and cultural development of the city: it will become a point of attraction for tourists, potential investors and partners.

Today the voting leaders are Zaraysk, which collected 1060 votes, Pskov with 1410 votes and Smolensk, with an impressive margin and 2343 votes. And the Don capital has so far collected 459 votes.

Nizhny Novgorod won the vote for the right to become the cultural capital of 2024, and Grozny won in 2025. The latter will restore and reconstruct cultural and historical heritage sites, and the theaters will host large-scale events not only at the federal level, but also at the international level.
