TOMSK, April 24 – RIA Tomsk. Deputies of the Tomsk Duma advocate the creation of a comprehensive program for the maintenance of monuments to participants in the Great Patriotic War, as well as their burial places; Currently, landscaping often affects only monuments and not the surrounding area, a RIA Tomsk correspondent reports from a meeting of the social policy committee held on Wednesday.

Monuments and obelisks to participants in the war began to appear immediately after its end, and this especially became widespread in the 60s of the last century. In Tomsk, the central one is the Monument to the Military and Labor Glory of the Tomsk People, opened in 1979 in the Camp Garden. According to the mayor’s office, in total there are more than 200 monuments and memorials in the Tomsk region.

“As part of perpetuating the memory of the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War, memorial complexes will be prepared. The alley of memorial places in public gardens in all districts of the city will be cleaned, as well as the territory in the villages of Zavarzino, the villages of Timiryazevsky, Dzerzhinsky,” said the head of the culture department Denis Shostak at the committee meeting social policy of the City Duma.

He added that improvements to the graves of war veterans are also planned.

Need a program

“The topic of maintaining monuments to the fallen is a hot one. Indeed, we are talking about bringing the monuments to proper condition, but what about the landscaping next to these monuments? Because, as a rule, monuments are a complex. Therefore, when they now say “proper condition,” I don’t really agree with this. After all, the territory where these monuments are located needs to be improved,” said deputy Tatyana Bogomolova.

Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Social Issues Alexei Balanovsky supported Bogomolova: “We need to understand the concept. If we take a monument or memorial, then there must be some kind of land plot attached to it. So that not just a monument, but holes are dug all around. There must be an integrated approach. Perhaps. , it will be necessary to allocate some kind of land, since the land may or may not be municipal.”

The deputies proposed to formulate a protocol instruction for the mayor’s office and return to discussing this topic in June.

“The question is not so simple and quick. You can look at the future, what the administration will decide on the 80th anniversary (of Victory Day), what will happen next. Let’s see the whole concept,” Balanovsky summed up.
