According to the Prosecutor General, the authorities did not have reliable data on the influx of water
Moscow. April 24. INTERFAX.RU – Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov considers measures to prevent floods in Russia insufficient and ineffective. He stated this while delivering an annual report to the Federation Council.
“In January of this year, I demanded that the Minister of Natural Resources and the head of Roshydromet eliminate the violations. However, the measures they took turned out to be ineffective and insufficient,” said the head of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to him, of the 1 thousand automated complexes and posts of the hydrological network, a fifth were not working at the time of the inspection in 2023. No means of measuring water flow were used in flood forecasting.
“The lack of reliable information about the indicators of water inflow at a critical moment did not prevent global flooding of the territories of several regions. This was one of the reasons for the emergency. As a result, tens of thousands of people were injured, their property, and the economy suffered significant damage that has yet to be assessed,” – said the Prosecutor General.
Krasnov intends to ensure that all those responsible for what happened are held accountable. He has already reported to the president about this situation.
