An unusual case occurred in the Kazachinsko-Lensky district of the Irkutsk region – a one-year-old cat named Bagira gave birth to a kitten with two heads. This was reported by the press service of the regional veterinary department.
Bagheera’s owner said that the cat gave birth to two kittens at home. However, the pushing did not stop, and milk was not released. The animal was weakening before our eyes. Then she was taken to the veterinary clinic. After examination, it turned out that there was another fetus inside the uterus. He was removed by caesarean section.
After an autopsy, it was discovered that the uterine body was ruptured by the unusually large fetal head, so an ovariohysterectomy was performed. At first, we assumed that the kitten had hydrocele of the brain, but it turned out that it was diprosopia, a developmental defect consisting of craniofacial duplication,”
the veterinarian said.
The reason for the birth of a mutant kitten was the uncontrolled mating of animals. Probably, the kitten’s father was a close relative of the mother, which led to genetic disorders.
