Another pine alley is dying in Sevastopol. This time, drying trees were found near the village of Khmelnitsky, Balaklava district. Concerned local residents reported this to ForPost.

“You write about the death of pine trees along General Ostryakov Avenue and that you have finally decided to fight it. But this is the situation with pine trees throughout the city: in plantings on Kamyshov Highway, on Fiolent, in many places, as well as outside the city. We would like to draw attention to the destruction of the alley near the monument to soldiers of the 7th Marine Brigade (coordinates 44.541307, 33.653637). With respect, residents of the village of Khmelnytskoe,” they signed their appeal.

Sevastopol residents hope that on the eve of the May 9 holiday, as well as the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Sevastopol, the city authorities will pay attention to the condition of the once lush pine alley and treat the Red Book trees from diseases and pests.

Unfortunately, it was not possible to find the department that is responsible for the territory of the monument.

In Sevnasledie, which ForPost contacted, they explained that the pine alley is located outside the boundaries of the territory of the cultural heritage site, which is the monument to the soldiers of the 7th Marine Brigade, and advised to contact Sevprirodnadzor.

In turn, the Department of Natural Resources and Ecology of Sevastopol noted that the specified territory is not a forest or a specially protected natural area, and therefore is not under the control of Sevprirodnadzor. They added that these are agricultural lands.

The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Market of Sevastopol does not have the authority to process trees, so ForPost addressed this issue to the Department of Municipal Affairs, but it was not possible to promptly obtain information from them.

It should be noted that the monument to the soldiers of the 7th Marine Brigade was erected at the foot of Mount Gasforta, near the village of Khmelnitsky in 1968. It was here that the brigade’s positions were located during the Great Patriotic War. Marines under the command of the legendary General Yevgeny Ivanovich Zhidilov took part in the defense of Sevastopol and in the battles for Crimea. Near the monument there is a mass grave in which soldiers of the brigade are buried.

Let us remind you: despite the fact that immediately after the publication of ForPost about the death of the pine alley on General Ostryakov Avenue, specialists from the State Budgetary Institution “Parks and Squares” and the Federal State Institution “Roslesozashchita” carried out a comprehensive examination of diseased trees, which showed the presence of five diseases at once, almost a hundred pine trees could not be saved managed. A decision was made to demolish them.

Unfortunately, only seven months after the results were obtained, the Parks and Squares employees began processing the remaining Red Book trees, most of which had almost completely dried out during this time.
