St. Petersburg. April 24. INTERFAX – The “Night of Museums” event will be held in St. Petersburg on May 18.

“This year we have more than 130 participants, 12 of them are new. There are many different museums in St. Petersburg, state and non-state, federal and city. The action unites them,” Fyodor Boltin, chairman of the city committee for culture, told reporters on Wednesday.

According to him, some museums will be open until the morning. “For example, in the Chapel you can listen to classical music until 7 am and go to watch the sunrise on Palace Square,” Boltin added.

He said that the themes of the events within the framework of the action would be dedicated to the Year of the Family, the anniversaries of Pushkin, Lermontov, Gogol and Nabokov, and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad from the siege.

The curator of the Night of Museums, Natalia Yablonskaya, noted that buses will run between museums at intervals of 15 minutes. Not only museums and concert venues, but also about 20 libraries will take part in the event.

For the first time, the Museum of Naval Glory in Kronstadt, the Sergei Kuryokhin Center for Contemporary Art, Street Art Storage, Academician Pavlov’s Apartment Museum and others will take part in the “Night of Museums”.

Traditionally, on the “Night of Museums,” visitors will be greeted by the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Anna Akhmatova Museum in the Fountain House, the Naval Museum, the Russian Ethnographic Museum, the Museum of Theater and Musical Arts, the Museum of Russian Railways and others. The Tsarskoye Selo State Museum will open the Alexander Palace this year, and the Peterhof State Museum will open the Benois Family Museum.

Some museums have chosen to work in the evening – from 18:00 to 23:00, others wait for visitors all night, from 18:00 to 06:00. All museums will be open during sessions.

The Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic in the program “Not speech, but language” will explain how communication works in polar conditions. The guides of the Gatchina Palace will teach you the language of flowers. The slang of filmmakers will be deciphered at the Lenfilm film studio, and the Sports Museum will talk about the difficulties of the work of sports commentators.

At the Museum of the First Medical University you will be able to find out why dead languages ​​in medicine are no less important than living ones, and at the Museum of the Academy of Arts you will be able to understand the meaning of some symbols in the history of art.

In the New Exhibition Hall of the Museum of Urban Sculpture, excursions “Speaking Sculpture” will be held. The Printing Museum and the Kirov Museum will tell you which words fell out of use and which ones appeared after the events of 1917. The garden of the Fountain House will turn into the Universe of Words, where the Anna Akhmatova Museum offers a look into the poetic kitchen or mastering a useless professional vocabulary.
