On April 23, 2024, at the age of 70, Yuri Aleksandrovich Savenkov, deputy head of the design bureau and director of the department of field testing and delivery of air defense systems at KBP JSC, died after a serious long-term illness.
A true patriot and professional in his field, Yuri Aleksandrovich devoted his entire life to serving the Motherland, first in the Armed Forces, and then in JSC KBP, making a great contribution to the development of the defense industry. With the dignity and honor of a career officer, he carried out the state tasks assigned to him to strengthen the defense power of Russia.
Everyone who knew Yuri Alexandrovich respected him for his highest professionalism, deep knowledge, strong life principles, dedication to his chosen cause as a talented organizer, wise leader and caring person.
After graduating from school, he cast his lot with the Armed Forces, going from a cadet at the Higher Air Defense Engineering School to a colonel, head of one of the leading departments of the Directorate for the Development and Organization of Orders for Aerospace Defense Equipment.
After graduating from the Minsk Higher Engineering Anti-Aircraft Missile School of Air Defense, he was assigned to serve in the military unit in Kapustin Yar, where he served for 14 years. In 1986 he graduated in absentia from the Kharkov Military Engineering Radio Engineering Academy of Air Defense. The accumulated deep and comprehensive engineering knowledge and extensive practical experience in developing air and missile defense systems allowed him to continue serving in the ordering department of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation since 1989.
During these years, working in all areas of creating the air defense of our country, his career path was closely connected with the Instrument Design Bureau. He accompanied the serial production of complexes adopted for service and participated in the development of new weapons. With his direct participation and support, the formation and establishment of the Pantsir-S1 complex took place.
In 2008, after completing his service in the Armed Forces, taking into account the accumulated theoretical and practical experience, he was invited to work at the Instrument Design Bureau for the position of Deputy General Director – Chief Designer for Air Defense Systems.
Active participation and great contribution of Yu.A. Savenkov’s contribution to the creation of the latest weapons has been recognized with state awards. He was awarded the Order of Military Merit, he was awarded the Government Prize in the field of science and technology, and was awarded the honorary title “Honored Military Specialist of the Russian Federation.”
Yuri Alexandrovich was an optimist, he loved life, people, his family immensely, and attached great importance to the upbringing of his grandchildren.
