On April 24, 2024, a gala event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Smolensk Regional Duma took place in the Great Hall of the House of Soviets.
The solemn event was attended by Metropolitan Isidor of Smolensk and Dorogobuzh, Bishop of Vyazemsky and Gagarinsky Sergius and Bishop of Roslavl and Desnogorsk Meletius.
Metropolitan Isidor of Smolensk and Dorogobuzh delivered a welcoming speech:
Your Eminence Bishops, dear Vasily Nikolaevich, Sergei Ivanovich, Yuri Eduardovich, Evgeniy Alexandrovich! Dear Igor Vasilievich, deputies of the Smolensk Regional Duma!
Please accept congratulations on the triumph of Smolensk parliamentarism. Regulating church-state relations, building harmonious interethnic and interreligious relations, instilling spiritual, moral, patriotic values in society, supporting military personnel and members of their families, veterans and people in need of support from the state and society – it is impossible to imagine without the legislative efforts of the regional parliament. And this work should be given the highest praise. The personal role of Igor Vasilyevich Lyakhov, Chairman of the Smolensk Regional Duma, in creative service to our small homeland, the Smolensk region, is difficult to overestimate. May God’s blessing be upon you all!
His Eminence Metropolitan Isidore presented awards of the Smolensk diocese to deputies of the Smolensk Regional Duma and employees of the apparatus of the Smolensk Regional Duma who contributed to the spiritual, moral and patriotic education of Smolensk residents.
