The indicator is planned to be achieved by the end of this year through the implementation of the federal project “Clean Water” in the region, Governor Alexey Russkikh announced this today at the annual report to deputies of the regional ZSO.

Let us remind you that the largest project to improve the quality of water supply is nearing completion in the Cherdakly district; by the end of the year, residents of Mirny and Cherdakly will receive clean drinking water from a centralized source.

Federal support is helping to update the treatment plant system; biological sewage treatment facilities on the right bank of Ulyanovsk have already been reconstructed. This year it is necessary to complete work on the left bank and Barysh sewage treatment plants. The municipalities continue to repair water pipelines, water wells and storage tanks.

“We are transferring the management of municipal water supply and sanitation facilities to the regional level. This will allow concentrating resources and increasing management efficiency. Already in 15 municipalities, Ulyanovsk “Oblvodokanal” provides the population with drinking water,” said Alexey Russkikh.

The improvement of the hydrographic network in the region continues, water bodies are cleared of debris, preventing the danger of waterlogging. A striking example is the Yurmansky Gulf of the Volga.

Also in his speech, the governor stated that the region needs a comprehensive environmental program, and decisions are ripe to improve the MSW management system.

“Using the example of our community of young ecologists, I can say how important it is to clean up rivers and forests and reduce the carbon footprint of enterprises. We go out to protests, educate the population and broadcast the results of such activities. We will continue to do this and are ready to help in the implementation of new ideas to improve a favorable environmental situation,” commented Mikhail Sergeev, Chairman of the Youth Environmental Council under the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Ulyanovsk Region.
