A memorial will be erected in Smolensk in memory of the defenders who died in the special military operation zone. This was reported on the official website of the Smolensk City Administration.

The memorial will be called “An Unbending Spirit Will Overcome Anything.” This phrase is on the coat of arms of the Smolensk region.

For many centuries, Smolensk residents heroically defended the Fatherland, defended the interests of our state and saved the whole world from fascism. Now military personnel in the special operation zone are showing fortitude, dedication and courage while fighting neo-Nazism. The memorial will become a symbol of memory of the fallen soldiers, their courage, valor and devotion to duty.

Anyone can take part in developing a sketch of a monument for the memorial. The best project will be chosen by experts based on the results of a competition organized by the Government of the Smolensk Region, the City Administration and the Union of Designers of Russia.

The sculpture must be made in a vertical composition and can consist of several human figures – no more than three; the monument will be created from durable materials (marble, granite, cast iron, bronze, other types of stone and metal or combinations thereof).

The organizers of the monument sketch competition note that three-dimensional models, photographs of layouts or graphic sketches made in any technique can be submitted as a project.

It is planned that the memorial will be installed near the museum “Smolensk region during the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945.”
