Babies born in St. Petersburg from parents registered in the city will be given a gift – a set of essentials worth 15 thousand rubles.

Newborns in St. Petersburg will be given a set of essentials. The city Legislative Assembly adopted the corresponding bill in the first reading today. It is expected that the kits will begin to be issued for those born in the city on the Neva starting from August 1, 2024. It will be available at the regional registry offices. To do this, at least one of the parents must be registered in St. Petersburg, including under temporary registration. The approximate cost of a gift set of children’s accessories (clothes, bed linen, hygiene products, a musical toy for the crib, a baby food warmer, a baby monitor, a night lamp, etc.) will be 15 thousand rubles, Fontanka reports.

To do this, 304.7 million rubles will be required from the city budget for 5 months of 2024 (from August to December), for 2025-2026, taking into account birth rate data for 2023 (48.7 thousand people) – 731.3 million each rubles annually.

Perhaps families will be given the right to choose what exactly to spend the money on, and for this purpose they will provide for the transfer of funds to a children’s card.
