On the eve of the 79th anniversary of the Victory, Acting Mayor of Novosibirsk Oleg Klemeshov met with veterans of the Great Patriotic War: its participants, residents of besieged Leningrad, prisoners of concentration camps and home front workers.

Speaking to the audience, the head of the municipality noted that May 9 is the main holiday not only in Russia, but also in many friendly countries. Soldiers and officers from Siberia took part in all the significant battles of that war and emerged victorious almost everywhere.
“We remember every page of this heroic story, and not only at the fronts, but also in the rear, where the Siberians did everything so that the front would not need anything. It is no coincidence that the city of Novosibirsk bears the honorary title “City of Labor Valor.” You helped restore everything that was destroyed during the war. Thanks to the freedom we have won, today we have the opportunity to live and work,” emphasized Oleg Klemeshov.

According to the chairman of the city council of veterans, Alexander Yarovoy, 99 participants of the Great Patriotic War, 132 blockade survivors, 127 concentration camp prisoners and 1,824 home front workers remained in Novosibirsk.
“The generation of winners passed on their passion and energy to us, and today we have something to be proud of and something to work on,” said Alexander Yarovoy.
Oleg Klemeshov added that our duty is to remember the horror of those days, carefully convey this information to young people and prevent the spread of the brown plague, which is trying to rear its head in Ukraine.
