The hurricane season in Moscow started earlier this year due to an abnormally warm April. The acting director of the Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the head of the climatology laboratory of the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladimir Semenov, reported this to the Moscow City News Agency.
“More often, events such as squalls, downpours, and hurricanes are observed in May due to the contrast in temperatures between our latitudes and the Arctic. This year, this season started earlier because there was a warm April, this is a strong anomaly, when the temperature in Moscow reached 20 degrees, which is at least 8 degrees higher than the climate norm for this month,” said Vladimir Semenov.
According to the climatologist, due to climate change, in 20-30 years such a warm April may become the norm for Moscow.
