April 24. In Irkutsk, preparations are in full swing for the celebration of the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. More than 200 events are planned in the regional center. This was reported by IrkutskMedia news agency with reference to the press service of the city administration.
The main part will begin on May 7. On this day at 11.00 a funeral ceremony will take place at the Amur Cemetery. At 11.30 a solemn event will be held at the monument to Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgy Zhukov. Wreaths and flowers will be laid at the memorial and monument.
On May 9 at 11.00 a festive procession of units of the Russian Ministry of Defense and law enforcement agencies of the Irkutsk garrison will begin on Count Speransky Square. There will be demonstrations and demonstrations of military equipment.
From 13.00 to 18.00 everyone is invited to a concert at the monument to Alexander III. At 9 Gagarina Boulevard there will be a site dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Soviet and Russian poet Bulat Okudzhava. It will also be possible to take part in the “Open Microphone” event: perform patriotic songs or read
poems on military topics, including works by Bulat Shalvovich.
From 12.00 to 16.00, a festive program is organized for residents and guests of the city in the Kirov park.
The main concert “Victory Day” will take place on Count Speransky Square from 14.30 to 21.45. The program will be opened by the Governor’s Symphony Orchestra, then
Vocal and choreographic groups from the city will perform on stage.
At 22.00 the holiday will end with fireworks on the Lower Embankment.
For the safety of citizens, law enforcement officers will work during the events.
