The visit of Samara students was organized by the Regional Center for the Development of Public Diplomacy and International Relations named after. E. M. Primakov at Samara University with the support of Farit Mukhametshin, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, representative of the executive body of state power of the Samara Region. The delegation also included students from Volgograd State University, who were supervised by Sergei Gornyakov, Member of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy.

The visit program included a tour of the historical building of the Federation Council, during which future international specialists got acquainted with the exhibition “Russian student groups: the main labor movement of the country” that opened on the day of the visit. Afterwards, the students were able to communicate with senators – to learn first-hand the intricacies of the work of the upper house of the Russian parliament, its constitutional powers, as well as the role and tasks of the committees of the Federation Council in working to improve legislation and develop international cooperation along parliamentary lines.

Students asked the senators questions about the foreign policy of the Russian Federation and its key priorities in developing cooperation with countries of the world, and also asked them to share parting words in choosing a professional path.

Answering questions from the meeting participants, Senator from the Samara Region Farit Mukhametshin touched upon in detail the issue of developing inter-parliamentary cooperation, the role of the Federation Council, as well as the relevant Committee on International Affairs in deepening regular contacts with fellow parliamentarians from other countries, including within the framework of joint working groups with specialized committees of foreign parliaments.

“Of course, we work based on the prevailing international realities. It is no secret to you that the authorities of Western countries are seeking to isolate Russia and increase sanctions pressure on our country… Today, special attention to the activities of our Committee at the inter-parliamentary level is aimed at comprehensively deepening cooperation with friendly countries. What is happening Today, the formation of a multipolar world order is the most important process, in which the leading role is played by the world majority countries,” the senator emphasized.

Farit Mukhametshin specifically focused on the active work of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs with friendly countries, including states of Islamic civilization that share the Russian approach to upholding a fair multipolar world order and safe development. He spoke in more detail about the upcoming International Economic Forum “KazanForum-2024” in May (May 14-19, 2024 in Kazan) and the international conference of the Strategic Vision Group “Russia – Islamic World” taking place along with it on May 16, 2024, participation in which will be hosted by a representative delegation of the Federation Council and the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.

At the end of the meeting, Farit Mukhametshin noted the importance of establishing cooperation between the Center. Primakov at Samara University and the Center for Public Diplomacy at Volgograd State University.

“From the moment the idea of ​​creating the Center appeared and our joint development with Governor Dmitry Azarov and President of Samara University Viktor Soifer, we saw this center not only as a tribute to the memory of the outstanding Russian diplomat and statesman Yevgeny Primakov, but also as important, one of the supporting, points for the development of public diplomacy in the country,” the parliamentarian emphasized.
