After renovation, the Novgorod school will be named after twice Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Chernyakhovsky

In 2024, “Secondary school No. 21” of Veliky Novgorod will be named after Ivan Danilovich Chernyakhovsky. Recently, a meeting of the commission was held at the city hall on the issue of naming the school after this general and twice Hero of the Soviet Union. The commission voted unanimously in favor.

The school claims that by petitioning to give the institution a name, they are restoring historical justice – after all, the school building itself stands on the line where the Novgorod defense line passed and the battles of the 28th Tank Division under the command of Chernyakhovsky took place.

In connection with this event, the school management turned to the “Dolina Search Expedition” with a request to help find Ivan Danilovich’s relatives.

Our Hero was born in 1907 in the Kyiv province. According to information from social networks, it is known that in June 2022, his relatives laid flowers and wreaths at the general’s monument in the Vitebsk region (Belarus)

“It is very important for us to find relatives of Ivan Danilovich, says Deputy Director for Educational Work at School No. 21 Maria Zakharova. — Even if they cannot come to visit us, perhaps with their help we will be able to tell children historically correct and not widely known facts. Our school is currently undergoing major renovations, the building is four floors, on each floor we want to make a historical living room that will be associated with Ivan Danilovich and the years of the Great Patriotic War. Perhaps relatives will be able to take part in the organizational aspect, we would send them photos and videos of current changes, they would express their opinion. We are sure that this is important for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of our Ivan DanilovichO!”

Let us add that General Chernyakhovsky has invisibly been the custodian of 21 schools since its opening in 1967 – since there is a bust of the hero here. Here they were accepted into the Pioneers and the Komsomol. Today’s children run to Ivan Danilovich for help before important tests or exams.

As it became known the day before, 21 schools have already received information about the granddaughter of General Chernyakhovsky. Her name is Anastasia Markovna Orlova.

Let us recall that Ivan Chernyakhovsky was buried in 1945 with military honors in Vilnius, which he liberated, on one of the central squares. In 1992, the Lithuanian authorities considered his burial an object of communist propaganda, and the ashes of twice Hero of the Soviet Union Chernyakhovsky were reburied in Moscow at the Novodevichy cemetery. The monument erected in Vilnius in 1964 was also moved to Voronezh.
