In many regions of Russia since the beginning of the year, the increase in bread prices has amounted to 10-15%. In some regions, including St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region – 30%.

Bread prices, which producers in a number of Russian regions have raised by 10-15% since the beginning of 2024, have made a significant contribution to food inflation. Based on the results of the first quarter of 2024, bread prices in a number of regions, including Moscow, the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Leningrad, Sverdlovsk, and Kemerovo regions, increased by almost 30%. According to Kommersant, this situation has already forced the Ministry of Agriculture to hold a meeting with producers and take the issue under special control. According to market participants, bakers are primarily forced to raise prices by rising transportation costs.

The Ministry of Agriculture notes that prices for food wheat and rye, which are used to produce bread, have been decreasing among producers since the end of December 2023. At the same time, transportation, packaging and related costs increase, which affects the cost. “At the same time, we expect that the price situation will remain stable,” says the Ministry of Agriculture (quoted by Interfax).

According to NTech, by the end of 2023, the average cost of bakery products in Russia as a whole was 143 rubles per 1 kg, compared to 131 rubles at the end of 2022.
