The annual St. George’s Ribbon campaign has started in Russia. In the spring of 2024, the event will take place for the twentieth time. According to tradition, the first St. George ribbons could be received at the walls of the international media group “Russia Today” on Zubovsky Boulevard in Moscow, where this popular action was born in 2005. This was reported on the RIA Novosti website.

In all regions of Russia in 2024, “St. George’s Ribbon” will take place from April 24 to May 9. It is expected that countries from near and far abroad will join it. Addresses of points where you can receive St. George ribbons in Russia and abroad are available on the website volunteerspobedy.rf. “St. George’s Ribbon” is carried out by thousands of “Victory Volunteers” with the information support of the international media group “Russia Today”.

Many other government and public organizations also take part in the action. Including Rossotrudnichestvo, Rospatriototsentr, school and student youth associations. Among the active participants are volunteers from the Moscow Pedagogical State University and cadets from Moscow school No. 1238.

A press conference was held at the Rossiya Segodnya International Multimedia Press Center to coincide with the start of the action. https://pressria.ru/20240424/956497542.html

In his address to the guests and participants of the event on Zubovsky, Dmitry Kiselev, General Director of the Rossiya Segodnya media group, noted: “The relevance of this action has just increased, because the St. George ribbon, as we now understand, more than ever carries within itself the victorious genetics that gives strength to us. If you think about it, in the life of each of us, whether at the front or in the rear, now is the most important period… We will remember it, we will evaluate our actions, and now it is important to realize this. And so it reminds us, on the one hand, of the feat of our fathers and grandfathers, and on the other hand, it reminds us of our duty today, of the challenges that Russia faces, which must be met.”

The importance of the “St. George Ribbon” campaign was emphasized in her video message by Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya media group and RT television channel: “The St. George Ribbon has become a symbol not only of victory in the Great Patriotic War, but now also a symbol of the desire for our future victory.

“You all know that this year the “St. George’s Ribbon” campaign is already taking place. A wonderful, absolutely amazing event, when we all proudly wear our St. George’s ribbon, which has become a symbol of not just our victory in the Great Patriotic War, but a symbol of our community, our belonging to one great Russian world, and now also a symbol of the desire for our future victory for the right of our Russian world to exist against fascism, just as it was in 1945.” VIDEO COMMENTARY BY SIMONYAN https://disk.yandex.ru/i/r85bBABmscSytQThe author of the action, deputy editor-in-chief of the media group “Russia Today” Natalya Loseva, spoke about how the “St. George’s Ribbon” has changed over 19 years: “Twenty years ago, it was a time when Victory Day was not actually celebrated. It was a quiet, modest holiday; it was not fashionable to be a patriot. It’s good that this was changed. Look at society’s current demand for self-identification. The action today is not only a sign of memory of the front-line soldiers of the Great Patriotic War, but also a symbol of the symbol of a resurgent Russia. Today, front-line soldiers are also those guys who are fighting modern fascism. Now there is a renaissance of the St. George’s ribbon as our smart, beautiful, powerful victorious nation.”

Chairman of the Central Headquarters of the VOD “Volunteers of Victory”, Deputy Head of the State Duma Committee of the Russian Federation on the Development of Civil Society, Issues of Public and Religious Associations Olga Zanko noted that for Victory Volunteers this is the tenth event: “More than 30 thousand Victory Volunteers will participate in the action; St. George ribbons can be received in all cities and towns of our country, including in the Arctic Circle. Abroad, our volunteers will distribute St. George ribbons in 35 countries, including Cyprus, Turkey, Congo, Morocco, Uzbekistan, Peru, Kyrgyzstan, and Azerbaijan.

“We urge you to wear it with respect. Each St. George ribbon intertwines the past with the present, unity, honor and respect for the defenders of our Motherland are values that we must carefully preserve. I remind you that the St. George ribbon has become a symbol of military glory, for its public desecration administrative or criminal liability will arise.”

Chairman of the Public Chamber of the Kherson region, head of the executive committee of the Kherson regional branch of the All-Russian public organization of veterans “Combat Brotherhood” Igor Kachur noted: “We are glad that today in the Kherson region the St. George’s Ribbon event can be held widely and openly. But even before, all the years of the dark period of history, when we were under Ukraine, this symbol of Victory was with us. Even before the start of the Great Patriotic War, shaven-headed thugs, with the support of the Ukrainian authorities, beat people for honoring the Victors in the Great Patriotic War, tore St. George ribbons from the chests and awards from the chests of veterans. Even today you can pay with your life for the St. George ribbon on the territory of Ukraine; you have to hide your attitude towards historical memory. But it is impossible to wrest from the people the memory of our common Victories, of the liberating soldiers.”

According to the deputy head of the Department of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Moscow, Vladimir Filippov, who was at the origins of the action in 20205, andThe “St. George’s Ribbon” campaign led the fashion for volunteering and volunteerism.

“Victory Day is one of the most anticipated family holidays. In Moscow, more than 16 thousand veterans of the Great Patriotic War and their families are preparing to celebrate Victory Day. – Filippov noted.

Veteran of the Northern Military District, head of the sector of civic-patriotic education and volunteer activities of the St. Petersburg State Budgetary Institution “Moskovsky Youth Center” Vladimir Sukhinin noted that the “St. George’s Ribbon” campaign helps preserve historical memory and combat unfriendly propaganda influence:

“When I returned from the front, I saw that there was also a war going on in the rear. This is a hybrid information war for the minds of the younger generation. Many high school students and students do not understand what is happening. They need to be explained, they need to be taught information hygiene so that they do not fall for fake information and do not succumb to malicious influence from the outside. We are currently implementing a digital educational project “LIPA”, which helps teenagers and young people understand who is trying to influence us and how. Our goal is to develop a strong rear without which there can be no victorious front.”

At the press conference, a symbolic circulation of St. George’s ribbons was handed over to its participants, including the Victory Museum on Poklonnaya Hill, public organizations “Immortal Regiment”, “Victory Volunteers”, school and student volunteer organizations.

Accepting the symbolic St. George ribbons, Deputy Director of the Victory Museum Lyudmila Roslyakova said that the Victory Museum had established a good tradition on the eve of May 9 to give all visitors a St. George ribbon: “We invite all Muscovites and guests of the capital to share the Great Victory holiday with us, take part in the “We Remember” campaign, leave memories of their family and friends in the “Faces of Victory”, take part in our free concerts and master classes.”

On the day of the start of the “St. George Ribbon” campaign, a RIA Novosti photo exhibition “The Path to Victory. Rear”. The exhibition presents photo chronicles created by correspondents of the Sovinformburo, which captured the stories of people and home front workers. These people, often children and fragile women, devoted all their strength to the production of strategically important materials. They became an invisible front in the fight against the aggressor, along with the soldiers on the front line, and made a significant contribution to the overall Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
