Today, April 24, the two-day seventh International Intellectual Forum “Reading at the Eurasian Crossroads” continues in Chelyabinsk.

At different sites in the city organized meetings, round tables, discussion platforms, master classes, demonstration events, book fair

“Reading at the Eurasian Crossroads” united in Chelyabinsk teachers and book and information specialists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk and the Chelyabinsk region, Altai Territory, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Komi Republic, the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The idea of an international intellectual forum was born as a response to the problematic situation that has developed in the field of reading and readership research activities in Eurasia. As in the entire post-Soviet space, processes of rethinking the role and functions of reading in the life of modern society and the active use of new information technologies are taking place here. At the same time, in the Urals, Siberia, Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries, in areas with pronounced Eurasian specifics, these processes occur with a uniqueness that has not yet been fully identified.

In recent years, the narrative associated with reading, the study of readers and various aspects of their activity is quite contradictory: it is a complex mixture of complaints about the decline in interest in reading, attempts to make generalizations based on limited empirical material, and some confusion in the face of various forms of manifestation of reading activity in the Internet space “, – Doctor of Philology, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor of the Chelyabinsk State Institute of Culture noted in her report at the opening of the forum Violeta Askarova.

The main goal of the forum “Reading at the Eurasian Crossroads” was to unite and attract the attention of book and information professionals to the “narrative associated with reading”, to various problems of the development of reading and information culture in the Eurasian space.

The forum was organized by the government of the Chelyabinsk region, the Chelyabinsk State Institute of Culture, the Chelyabinsk Regional Universal Scientific Library, the Chelyabinsk Regional Youth Library, the Chelyabinsk Regional Library named after. V.V. Mayakovsky.
